YouTube is doubling down on artificial intelligence within its Shorts platform, testing new features that could reshape how videos are created and consumed. The company is currently rolling out “Reimagine” and “Add Object,” both AI-driven tools designed to empower creators – or, as many are seeing it, replace them.

The “Reimagine” feature allows users to select a frame from an existing short and generate a new video based on that single image, fueled by custom prompts. The “Add Object” feature goes further, enabling creators to insert AI-generated items into a scene, provided the original video is at least eight seconds long. These features, still in testing with a limited group, are already raising concerns among creators who fear a shift away from genuine creative input.
The implications are significant. If widely adopted, these tools could lead to a flood of AI-generated content, potentially overshadowing videos crafted by human ingenuity. YouTube claims that Shorts created with these features will link back to the original video, and creators can opt out of having their content used.
