U.S. President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing threat against Iran on his Truth Social platform, demanding Tehran unblock the Strait of Hormuz or face the consequences.

In a tweet riddled with profanity, Trump urged Iranian authorities to 'open the fking strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in hell.' This comes after Trump extended a five-day ultimatum to Iran, set to expire on April 6, amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts and a fragile ceasefire.

Analysts warn that without a plan to reopen the strategic waterway, Iran could maintain control, prolonging the crisis. 'This won't be a crisis that ends with an announcement of a ceasefire,' says Angelica Kemene, head of market strategy at Optima Shipping Services in Athens. 'It's a structural change in how the Gulf operates as an energy export corridor.'

The threat of Iranian attacks has kept most shipping operators out of the strait since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on February 28. Any initial reopening would likely rely on naval escorts, and it's unclear when or if normal commerce can resume.

Moreover, the majority of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz are linked to Iran or belong to Tehran's allies. This enables the Islamic Republic to rake in nearly $139 million in daily oil revenue, a figure surpassing pre-war levels thanks to higher prices.
