T-Mobile Cuts Jobs, Closes Stores in Its Hometown State of Washington

T-Mobile, the fourth-largest wireless carrier in the US, has announced plans to cut 77 jobs and close six retail stores in its home state of Washington. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice, as required by state law, detailing the layoffs and store closures.

The permanent job cuts will take place between September 21 and November 18, 2026, due to "changing business needs." Affected employees include frontline retail mobile experts, senior corporate directors, and system architects. The company also closed its Canyon Pointe corporate office in Bothell, Washington.

The six retail stores being shuttered are located in Seattle, Bellingham, Vancouver, Tacoma, Yakima, and Kennewick. This move is part of T-Mobile's transition to a digital-first carrier, with most transactions now handled through the T-Life app. As the company shifts focus, more retail locations could potentially close in the future.

T-Mobile's parent company, Deutsche Telekom, is also looking to eliminate duplicative roles, contributing to the headcount reductions. The layoffs and store closures demonstrate the evolving nature of the telecommunications industry, with carriers adapting to changing consumer habits and technological advancements.
