Smartsens unveils massive 1-inch sc5a6xs sensor for future flagships

Chinese image sensor maker SmartSens has stirred up the mobile photography world with the announcement of its new 1-inch SC5A6XS sensor. This behemoth of a camera module is designed specifically for high-end flagship devices and promises to deliver top-notch image quality.

Eye-catching specs

The SC5A6XS boasts a 50MP resolution, with large 1.6μm pixels to absorb more light. It features SmartSens' proprietary Lofic HDR 3.0 Technology, capable of achieving an impressive 115dB of dynamic range. This allows the sensor to effortlessly capture scenes with both bright highlights and deep shadows, resulting in more natural, film-like images.

Video performance also gets a significant boost, with the ability to record 4K at 120fps or 4K HDR at 60fps. This makes the SC5A6XS an ideal choice for content creators looking to capture smooth, detailed footage.

SmartSens has also managed to squeeze out significant power savings, with HDR-related consumption reduced by around 11%. This means future devices equipped with the SC5A6XS can enjoy longer battery life without sacrificing image quality.

Autofocus performance gets a speed boost courtesy of a combination of full-pixel AllPix ADAF and phase detection. This ensures fast and accurate focus acquisition, even in challenging lighting conditions.

The SC5A6XS is currently in sampling and is expected to enter mass production in Q2 2026. With its impressive specs and power efficiency, it's likely to be a sought-after component for next-generation flagships from top manufacturers.
