Samsung galaxy z fold 8 could pack a battery boost – but will it be enough?

Foldable battery race heats up
This potential upgrade comes as Samsung has historically lagged behind competitors like Honor and Oppo in battery capacity. The Honor Magic V6, for instance, offers a 6,660 mAh battery in its global version, and the Chinese edition reaches a staggering 7,150 mAh. The rumored 5,000 mAh in the Z Fold 8 would still place it behind the upcoming Oppo Find N6, tipped to have a 6,000 mAh battery. Even Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold is expected to surpass 5,500 mAh.
While a larger battery is welcome news for many users, it doesn’t automatically solve Samsung's battery woes. The company has been criticized for its conservative approach to battery sizes, a stark contrast to its past reputation for pushing technological boundaries. The news comes as Samsung continues to experiment with charging speeds, with hopes that speeds will reach at least 45W.
The report also suggests Samsung is testing a 2,393 mAh battery for a wider foldable, potentially bringing its total capacity to around 4,900 mAh. This information aligns with previous speculations about the device's battery specifications.
The potential battery increase is a welcome development, but Samsung faces an uphill battle to regain its footing in the foldable market. The company needs to demonstrate a more aggressive approach to specifications if it hopes to compete with rivals offering significantly longer battery life.
