Pixel gets faster charging, multitasking bubbles emerge in android 17 beta 3

Google's latest Android 17 Beta 3 release brings a welcome fix for Pixel users – the "Hey Google" hotword is back and faster than ever. But the update also hints at a new feature designed to alleviate battery anxiety: Priority Charging.

Priority charging on the horizon

The update, which also introduces multitasking App Bubbles, contains code revealing a feature called Priority Charging. This functionality will prioritize charging speed by pausing background activity like app updates. Think of it as a turbo boost for your battery when you're pressed for time.

The code strings suggest Priority Charging will recommend using a charger delivering 30W or higher for optimal results. It’s a calculated move by Google, acknowledging that faster charging generates more heat. The system will manage device temperature to prevent overheating – a smart safeguard.

The App Bubbles, debuted in the previous beta, allow users to quickly access apps without fully switching between them. Long-pressing an app icon brings up a bubble that can be moved around the screen. Tap the bubble for a smaller, focused window.

While Priority Charging isn’t immediately apparent in the Beta 3 interface, its presence in the code indicates active testing. It’s the kind of feature many Pixel users will appreciate – a quick power-up when their battery is running low. The race to optimize battery performance continues, and Google is clearly betting big on speed.
