Nvidia powers at&t's ai drive into 5g and iot

Nvidia's dominance in the AI chip market is showing no signs of slowing down, as the company's Technology is now being used by AT&T to accelerate its 5G and IoT ambitions.

The telecom giant has announced a collaboration with Cisco to enhance the evolution of AI-driven IoT, combining its dedicated IoT network core with the Cisco Mobility Services Platform.

This partnership is designed to improve how connected devices send and process data, with the Cisco platform handling data locally whenever possible to boost speed, performance and security.

In another key development, the Cisco AI Grid - built in partnership with Nvidia - is being used to bring AI processing closer to the source of the data. This 'AI inference' capability means analyzing data with trained AI models right where it's created, reducing delays and latency.

The system is designed for developers and businesses looking to use AI in real-world environments, such as factories, transportation systems or smart infrastructure.

According to Nvidia's VP for Telco Business Development, Chris Penrose, distributed computing is 'the next frontier' for AI infrastructure, with telecommunications networks 'at the heart of that buildout'. The Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs will play a crucial role in enhancing AT&T's network in terms of intelligent automation.

If the tests are successful, future 5G and even 6G networks could rely on GPU-accelerated infrastructure like Nvidia Blackwell to handle both connectivity and AI processing at scale.
