Microsoft unveils major teams overhaul for 2026, focusing on clarity and efficiency

Microsoft is gearing up to unveil a comprehensive set of updates for its popular collaboration platform, Teams, aimed at streamlining user experiences and reducing clutter. Key among these changes is the automated categorization of silenced chats and meeting-related conversations, which will be separated into distinct sections within the app.

Organizing chats just got a whole lot easier

The silenced chats section will be enabled by default, while the meetings tab will be inactive, allowing each user to toggle it on as needed. This reorganization aims to simplify the discovery of important conversations and prevent users from getting lost in less relevant threads.

Another notable enhancement is the improved filter for read messages. Currently, reviewing read chats within the unread section requires multiple steps, but the update will introduce an eye icon next to each section, enabling quick access to read and unread messages without the hassle.

Visually, Teams will receive a facelift to help identify activity on the platform. Silenced chats will display an indicator, while mentions and followed threads will feature a counter that will also be reflected in the Teams icon in the application bar.

For Mac users, a new feature will allow sharing a single app window during meetings, enabling real-time collaboration with annotating capabilities. These updates demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to making Teams a more efficient and user-friendly platform, helping users better manage their conversations and meetings.
