But it’s not just about megapixels; a recent Weibo post from Fixed Focus Digital reveals some surprising changes to the rear camera module – specifically, a 2mm increase in thickness.

The increase, according to the leak, is directly linked to an “Enlarged main camera module,” suggesting Apple is investing heavily in improving the image-capturing capabilities of the flagship models. This isn’t a minor adjustment; it’s a noticeable shift, and one that begs the question: why?

But the thickening isn’t the only intriguing detail. Fixed Focus Digital also points to the implementation of a variable aperture system – a feature previously seen on Huawei’s Mate 50 Pro. This Technology, mimicking DSLR functionality, allows the camera to dynamically adjust the aperture (f-stop) based on lighting conditions. In bright light, the blades close, minimizing light intake and preventing overexposure. Conversely, in low-light scenarios, the blades open, maximizing light capture and reducing noise.

It’s worth noting that Huawei pioneered this approach back in 2022 with the Mate 50 Pro, utilizing a multi-stop variable aperture system (f/1.4, f/2.0, f/2.8, f/4.0). Samsung also experimented with dual-aperture systems on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in 2018, switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4 depending on the environment.
