Google extends pixel care+ enrollment – a second chance for fold owners

Google’s giving Pixel 9 and 10 owners a second crack at Pixel Care+, reopening enrollment through August 2nd. But here's the twist: foldable models – the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Watch – are still stuck with the original 60-day window.

A rare do-over for pixel owners

The tech giant confirmed the extension on its blog, acknowledging that many users likely missed the initial signup deadline. This limited-time offer applies to the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9a, 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10a – essentially, a selection of their most recent devices.

To qualify, your Pixel needs to be in remarkably good condition: no cracked glass, no liquid damage, and absolutely no mechanical issues. Plus, your Google Account must have been linked to the device before July 13th. Existing Care+ subscribers, Preferred Care users, and those covered by Google Fi’s device protection won’t be eligible for this extended opportunity.

Monthly plans range from a modest $8 to $15, or you can pay a hefty $159 to $279 upfront for a two-year coverage plan. Screen and battery repairs stay free throughout the term, though accidental damage beyond those components will still incur a $99 service fee. And if you opt for Loss and Theft protection, that adds a separate tier with a $79 to $99 deductible, capped at two claims per year. It’s worth noting that Pixel Care+ isn’t available in New York.

While Google’s move is generous, it’s not entirely unique. Samsung ran a similar open enrollment period for Care+ back in 2025. However, AppleCare+ maintains a stricter policy – requiring an in-person inspection for late enrollments. Google’s streamlined approach, skipping that verification step, definitely feels more user-friendly.

Ultimately, for Pixel owners who initially overlooked this protection plan, it’s a smart move to snag before August 2nd. A free screen replacement alone justifies the cost, considering the potential expense of repairs.

My recommendation: sign up now

Let’s be honest, these protection plans often get relegated to the ‘maybe later’ pile. But considering the potential cost of a Pixel 10 Pro XL or Pixel 9 screen, this is a no-brainer. I’m already enrolled – no hesitation.
