After a year of speculation, Samsung has finally unveiled its Galaxy S27 series. The new flagships promise to deliver a slew of upgrades over their predecessors, but how do they stack up?

Design and display

Design-wise, the S27 duo is expected to keep the familiar glass sandwich look, complete with an IP68 rating and possibly some new color options. The traditional 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch AMOLED displays should retain their brightness and quality, with a rumored 2,600 nits peak brightness.

Camera improvements, while hinted at, remain unconfirmed for now. The S27 and S27 Plus might stick with the same 50 MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, and 10 MP 3x telephoto camera setups as the S26 series. Storage options are also likely to be similar, with 512 GB and 256 GB variants, possibly with a 1 TB option for the Plus model.

Battery and charging

Battery life remains a concern, as the S26 series only saw a 300 mAh bump. Hopefully, Samsung will step up the power game with the S27, perhaps offering a 4,300 mAh or larger battery. Fast charging capabilities may also get a boost, with 25 W wired and 15 W wireless charging on the standard S27, and 45 W wired and 20 W wireless charging on the S27 Plus.

Processors and ram

For the brains of the operation, the S27 series might employ a regional split, with either the Exynos 2700 or the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 powering the handsets. The Exynos 2700, rumored to be significantly improved, could offer a 12% performance boost and 25% power reduction.

Software and release date

Expect the Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus to run on One UI 9.5, based on Android 17. While no specific release date has been announced, the phones are likely to debut in early 2027, possibly alongside the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Should you wait for the Galaxy S27? If you're due for an upgrade and don't need a phone immediately, holding off might be worth considering. However, if you require a new device sooner rather than later, the S27's rumored improvements may be worth the wait.
