At&t reigns supreme: customer loyalty defies carrier wars
For 17 consecutive years, AT&T has held the coveted top spot in customer loyalty, according to a new report by Brand Keys. The findings, highlighted by Motley Fool, position the telecom giant ahead of industry heavyweights Verizon and T-Mobile in the 2026 Customer Loyalty Engagement Index (CLEI) rankings.

At&t's enduring hold on customer preference
While the telecom landscape often focuses on network speeds and pricing battles, AT&T’s consistent performance in coverage, network quality, and customer investment has fostered a remarkably loyal user base. The company boasts coverage reaching over 99% of the US population, a significant advantage built over its long history dating back to 1885. This longevity lends a certain weight to its brand identity, something newer entrants struggle to replicate.
The CLEI, used for three decades, assesses how well companies meet consumer expectations, rewarding those that consistently deliver. This year’s evaluation encompassed 1,119 brands across 106 categories, underscoring the significance of sustained performance.
AT&T isn’t standing still. A recent acquisition of EchoStar’s spectrum is already showing positive results, bolstering its network capabilities. Furthermore, its push into both 5G and fiber internet signals a strategic move toward convergence, likely contributing to its impressively low churn rate – under 1%.
The report confirms that the top three carriers – AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile – collectively generated a staggering $352 billion in revenue in 2025. Verizon has recently made significant strides in regaining ground, while T-Mobile continues to demonstrate impressive retention.
This year's report underscores a significant shift: choosing a carrier is not solely about the flashiest Technology; it’s about consistent, reliable service. AT&T's dominance isn't luck; it's the result of a calculated, long-term strategy. Now, the question becomes: can this established loyalty translate into a decisive competitive advantage?
