Ai recipes flood tiktok, but experts warn of 'trash content' epidemic

Intelligent algorithms are generating recipes at an unprecedented pace, flooding social media platforms like TikTok with an onslaught of culinary concoctions. But experts are sounding the alarm, warning that this AI-driven content boom is rapidly filling the internet with 'trash'.

Mia Mercado, an expert in AI for The Cut, decided to put some of the most popular AI-generated recipes to the test. The journalist reports that she sacrificed her taste buds to sample what she dubbed 'authentic AI slop.' Her trial began with a recipe for cinnamon rolls generated by an AI voice in a TikTok video.

Mercado mixed the dough, adding yeast, sugar, eggs, and flour, then kneaded it until it formed a sticky ball - far from the perfectly shaped rolls in the video. 'It's more like a raw egg pancake with herbs,' she wrote. 'When I tried to twist the strands into rolls, three unravelled. They tasted like a weird omelette.'

The result earned a paltry 0 out of 5 stars from the disappointed taster. But Mercado's saga didn't end there. She attempted another AI recipe, this time for spicy chickpea wraps with buffalo sauce. While the outcome was slightly better, scoring a 4 out of 5, Mercado quickly discovered the recipe was almost identical to one from Minimalist Baker, leading to accusations of plagiarism.

Undeterred, she ventured into even more unconventional territory with AI-generated recipes, including fettuccine with pineapple and peanut cream sauce. The dish drew widespread criticism from Italians, who deemed it inedible.

The AI content explosion extends far beyond TikTok. As more people turn to these automated culinary creations, experts warn of a looming 'trash content' crisis, where the internet becomes saturated with low-quality, algorithmically generated content lacking any real value or human touch.
