Samsung's folding phones price gap with apple is a missed opportunity
Samsung is leaving
a significant opportunity on the table with the pricing of its latest foldable phones, according to a recent analysis. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8, despite their premium features and cutting-edge technology, come with a hefty price tag that may deter potential customers, particularly in the US market.Price gap with apple is a missed opportunity
The analysis notes that while the price difference between the phones in South Korea and the US may not be outrageous, accounting for tariffs, distribution, marketing expenses, and other market-specific costs, Samsung may still be able to find a sweet spot to attract more customers without sacrificing too much profit margin.
In the US, the iPhone enjoys an unparalleled level of customer loyalty, with millions of people buying a new device almost automatically every few years. Samsung, on the other hand, has to work harder to win over iPhone users and establish a stronger presence in the market.

Aiming for a 10% price gap instead of 20%
According to the analysis, if Samsung were to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at a price point closer to $1,700 instead of $1,900, it could potentially sell more units and make up for the lower margin. This would put pressure on Apple and give Samsung a competitive advantage in the US market.
However, the analysis also acknowledges that Samsung may not be able to undercut Apple significantly without compromising its own margins and brand image. Instead, it suggests that the company could aim for a more moderate price gap of around 10% instead of the current 20%-plus premium.
With the expected launch of Apple's first foldable iPhone in the coming months, Samsung has a prime opportunity to differentiate itself and capitalize on its head start in the foldable market. By adopting a more aggressive pricing strategy, Samsung could not only gain market share but also reinforce its position as a premium Android brand.
